Halibut | Rock Fish and Ling Cod | Salmon | Remote Stream Fishing
HalibutWith all our halibut charters, we won’t cut you off by your limit. If you catch your limit on halibut, we’ll shift the focus to rockfish (including Yellow Eye, commonly known as “Red Snapper”) and – after July 1st – Ling Cod. There are different ways to fish for different halibut, though, and different places to go for each, depending on what you prefer. That’s why we have two types of halibut charters available: Option A: The Pig ChaseMost anglers coming to Alaska on that once in a lifetime fishing trip want to catch the “pig” halibut – the big trophy and derby winners. Well, we can help you chase that dream. Captain Wes is USCG Licensed for up to 100 miles off shore, so we can take you to the ‘outside’ Gulf waters, where the pigs are more likely to be. And we’ll do it safely and with your comfort in mind. If weather isn’t conducive to comfortable and safe fishing on the Gulf, we’ll refocus on Option B. Option B: The Chicken RunWhile so many are chasing the pigs in the deeper waters, other anglers know that the best eating halibut are the 30-60 pounders (smaller halibut are affectionately called “chickens”). There’s also a much better chance of catching chickens, so if you’re focused on getting good meat and want the best chance of catching fish, this may be the option for you. The Chicken Runs are within Prince William Sound, so transit time is less and the waters are usually calmer. Halibut Charter Rates:12-hour charters: $250 per person, or $900 for an exclusive party. "Exclusive parties" means you want the boat for you and your party alone -- a party up to 6; please bear in mind that we usually limit to 4 lines in the water at a time.
Rockfish and CodGenerally, we will catch these while targeting chicken halibut, but we know of a few nice holes that are great especially for particular varieties of fish – especially Yellow Eye Rockfish (also called “Red Snapper”), Ling Cod, and Pacific Cod (very good eating, and fun to catch). Call if you would like to target any of these varieties. Generally, the rate will be the same as for a halibut charter, depending on what you want to fish for and where we need to go to fish them. If you wish to target these fish, call for details on transit time and rates.
Silver SalmonThe pride of Valdez, Silver Salmon fishing from Valdez is world-renowned. In fact, the silver return to the Valdez area is so large that in most years, the limit is twice what you'll find elsewhere. Silver season is from mid-July through mid-September. Our silver salmon charters are half-day trips, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Because we always troll for silvers, we generally limit the number of rods in the water to 4.
EVENING CHARTERS: it may be that you are arriving into Valdez in the afternoon and want to get to fishing right away. We offer evening charters departing at 6:00p and running until dark. Call for details.
Pink salmon charters are also available at the same rates. The pink salmon run in the Valdez area is also renowned to be very large, and catching these fish is relatively easy with little transit time. Pink salmon typically run late June through July and into August. Silver Salmon Charter Rates:Half-day charters: $160 per person, or $600 for exclusive parties. "Exclusive parties" means you want the boat for you and your party alone -- a party up to 6, with 4 fishing at a time. Morning run is 7:00-noon; Afternoon run is 12:30p-5:30p. Evening charters: $125 per person. Evening charters begin at 6:00p and end at dark (before 9:00p if you're entering any fish in the Fish Derby, as weigh-in ends at 9:00p).
Halibut/Salmon Combo Trips
Later in the summer (mid-July and beyond), the silver salmon are running and the halibut are still biting, so for those who can't decide what to focus on (hey, we're often the same way!) we offer a day of chasing both. These are 12-hour charters in which we start the day fishing for halibut and troll for silvers on our return to port -- provided they're running. If they're not running yet, we'll remain focused on halibut. These charters offer a fun day of two very different kinds of fishing, and we have found that clients are very happy to go home with an even more varied box of meat. Halibut/Salmon Combo Charter Rates:Exclusive parties only. 12-hour charters: $1000 for an exclusive party, meaning that you charter the boat for you and your party alone -- a party of 4 unless special prior arrangements are made.
Remote Stream Fishing: Trout -- Steelhead -- Salmon
Unique among fishing charter companies, we offer trout and salmon fishing at remote rivers and streams around Prince William Sound. Our boat is able to nose on to shore at the mouths of streams to allow us to wade upstream to get to rainbow and steelhead trout, as well as -- depending on the timing and the runs -- sockeye (red) salmon, silver salmon, king salmon and lesser sought varieties of fish. Rather than fly to the interior via expensive bush or float plane, transit via ocean sound to streams and rivers that are seldom fished. Choose from either same-day trips or overnight trips. On overnight trips, you'll be truly "roughing it," camping on the beach and cooking over campfire or stove. All remote stream fishing trips are for you and your party only, up to 6 persons.
On multi-day trips, we provide all gear, including tackle, tent, and cooking gear, EXCEPT clothing, outer wear, and sleeping bags -- you must bring these yourself, or we will not depart the dock (this is a matter of safety in addition to comfort). Details will be provided prior to booking, and we will have discussed these details several times prior to your arrival for your excursion. Your safety and comfort are of primary importance to us, so fear not -- we will work with you to make sure you have everything you need well in advance of your trip. Remote Stream Fishing Rates:One-Day Trips: $1100 for an exclusive party of 4 (no individual pricing); $150 for each additional person bring the total to 6. We depart the dock at an arranged time, usually 5:00a, and return to port at approximately 6:00p. Multi-Day Trips: TWO-DAY trip (approx 36 hours): Party of 4: $1800, with an additional $150 for each additional person bringing the total to 6. THREE-DAY trip (approx 60 hours): Party of 4: $2500, with an additional $200 for each additional person bringing the total to 6. Multi-day trips depart the dock at arranged times, usually 5:00a, and return to port before 6:00p on the end day, depending on whether or not we've caught the fish limit.
